Rachel Taulelei outlines the special relationship Maori have with the land and water. How will those concepts help with the post covid landscape and how might they inspire a specific vision for NZ?
“We have a particular relationship, obviously with our land and our water, we revere them and and we view them as our tipuna, our ancestors”
I agree. People who have a multigenerational relationship with the land often have a different view of the land. Perhaps it’s an intrinsic understanding of humanities reliance on the life giving forces of soil, water and air. Or the understanding of the consequences of land abuses and the inter generational impacts for them and their family/s. Both provide a strong mandate for the formal placement of people who meet this criteria to be mandated as custodians of our environment.
